LIGHTWEIGHT fabrics are for highly aerobic activities. They are windproof, single layer fabrics, with or without a coating.

DOWNPROOF fabrics are for use with padding or down and for very low denier fibers. They are downproof by construction or ultralight coatings.

Lightweight & Downproof November 209

The lightweights have once again taken a giant leap forward in terms of functionality and sustainability. For the first time, there are 20 den polyamide yarns, made from castor oil. Whereas the benchmark for lightweights used to be around the 10 den mark, 7 den yarns are making headway. Nevertheless, these fabrics, which often only weigh at around 30 grams, are robust, also due to their Cordura content. Of course, downproofness is also a major issue, due its construction alone, as is PFC-free DWR.

Highdensity & Lightweight May 2019

Never before have there been so many fashionable approaches to lightweight, downproof fabrics. On the one hand, particularly special surfaces can be observed – crinkle, metallic optics on the outer- and reverse sides, high-gloss surfaces and brilliant, vibrant prints on fabrics, whose yarn can absorb more dye. On the other hand, these materials are extra light, almost transparent, partially made of yarns with only 7-denier fibre strength, yet fully functional. In this category, synthetic fibres from the oil of the castor bean are also used in addition to recycled PES and PA.
