These 2layer fabrics are used for the outer layer of the functional garment system. They are woven and either laminated or coated. They can be elastic and must be breathable and waterproof for use in jackets and pants. The term “Lightweight” applies if the construction is under 100g/sqm.

Visually and haptically exciting surfaces lend this commercial table a very fashionable touch. The laminates boast outer surfaces made of corduroy or milled wool, with crinkled optics or a particular sheen. Various jacquards can be seen, from the playful type to the more technical, and also OP-art motives. Fibres made of recycled PES or PA are also present here, and stretch yarns without spandex, which are elastic thanks to their spiral construction. The lightweight materials weigh in at well under 100 g and are slightly transparent.

Dominating this table of commercial, waterproof materials are the many new outer surfaces. The selection ranges from lodens to elastic corduroys and wool blends. Some of the laminates have fancy print patterns or jacquards, even with holographic effects or three-dimensional structures. Generally, these fabrics are very urban, while still tops in function with very good abrasion-resistance. Nearly all treatments are PFC-free with many fabrics being made of recycled PES or PA. Polyamides, from biopolymers such as castor beans, are also on the rise.
