This table shows fabrics used for the outer layer of the functional garment system. 2.5layer are fabrics consisting of a outer fabric plus a lamination or coating plus a print or flock. 3layer fabrics are constructions of a outer fabric plus lamination/coating and print/flock. Both are  tapeable, waterproof, and breathable. These highly functional fabrics are used for jackets or pants.

Function is mandatory in this category, as is sustainability. So only materials with PFC-free DWR and membrane can be seen on this table. Of particular interest are the mono-material laminates, which not only use polyester as an outer fabric and lining, but also as a membrane. Recycled nylon 6.6 makes its first appearance in this category. All treatments and finishings are non-hazardous. These result in no loss of performance, with values for waterproofness and breathability remaining at their usual height.

Jacquards and plastic prints with new print techniques lend a whole new optic to these highly functional fabrics. Extensive work has also been invested in performance, with top values of breathability up to 40,000 g/s.m./24h. Simultaneously, a lot of work has been done with structured surfaces that create a special hand-feel, so that the membrane is no longer perceivable. Recycling fibres are a must, and some fabrics are dyed without the use of water and have anhydrous DWR.
