Lecture: Legal requirements for shoes, clothing and materials - REACH, POP and EU Green Deal

PERFORMANCE DAYS, Munich

Footwear Workshops & Exchange

Wednesday 29th October 2025

13:30 - 13:50 CET

The presentation will explain what marketability means and what requirements we currently have in the EU for prohibited substances. The most important requirements from REACH Annex 17 and the POP Regulation will be explained, as well as how to handle customer-specific restricted substance lists (RSLs). An overview will be given of pending EU procedures regarding limit values. In addition to pollutants, sustainability requirements are playing an increasingly important role. Some requirements are cross-legal and can be found in several laws. The EU has now recognized this and wants to promote competitiveness by minimizing requirements or avoiding the need to meet them multiple times. Some of the regulations that emerged from the EU Green Deal (ESPR, Green Claims, etc.) will be explained, and their relevance for shoes will be discussed. Finally, some suitable labels for sustainability and quality will be presented.
