EU Green Deal Legislation - how to prepare for compliance

In the last 12 months a whole wave of legislation have been approved by the EU institutions, addressing textiles and apparel – regardless if garments are made in the EU or just sold in the EU. This is not advisory; if you do not comply - you will not be able to operate in the EU market. Similar legislation is also being proposed in the US.

The Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is core to the work that Designers & Fabric Developers carry out. The ESPR will have to be implemented over the next 3 -5 years; considering the majority of the industry at Performance Days is looking at projects up to 24 months in advance - this attention to detail is fundamental. Never before has legislation been so influential for the textiles industry.

Ohana Public Affairs is a Brussels-based boutique public affairs consultancy specialised in EU sustainability policies and support clients to keep abreast of the what is happening in Brussels. Clients are amongst others: European Outdoor Group, H&M Group, Sympatex to mention a few. Two of their team will run a set of workshops on ESPR & other key developments that should be kept in mind; but also to answer questions that designers and fabric developers must keep in mind when preparing compliance with legislation.

WORKSHOP 1: Why should fabric designers and producers care about upcoming EU legislation relevant for textiles now already?

Date: 23rd October // 11:30 – 13:00 CET // hall A2

Speaker: Rannveig van Iterson, Head of Circularity Ohana Public Affairs

Synopsis: In the last year a whole wave of sustainability legislation have been approved by the EU institutions, addressing textiles and apparel – regardless if garments are made in the EU or just sold in the EU. In addition, further critical requirements are yet to be adopted. These rules are not advisory; if you do not comply - you will not be able to operate in the EU market. Given that many of the pieces of legislation relevant for fabric designers are not adopted yet, it may feel very much like a moving-target to prepare for. However, given that suppliers will have to be ready and compliant before finished product manufacturers, it is critical to prepare. This workshop will explain why it is beneficial to already start preparing for upcoming legislation today.
