3D,  a short word, that inspires all departments along the chain of textil and garment manufacturing. Technologies that are established in the automotive industries since many years start to make their way in the apparel industries. Applications range from sizing and fitting, using 3D-body scaning to virtuell models based on real persons. Textil designers, garment designers and pattern makers benefit from rapid prototyping, as simulated garments can be made available much faster than real prototypes are produced. Procurement and production have detailed 3D-garments to discuss with vendors or communicate with production sites. Design, product management, marketing and sales can use photorealistic renderings at an early stage of collection planing. Internet compaigns and customer panels can be started without having any real garment produced. Phantasy, fiction or state-of-the-art technology? A brief overview on the 3D-Tool Vidya.
