Mass Balance Demonstrator for bio-based PET: An example for industry scale-up
Biosynthetic materials offer a route to reduce the apparel industry's reliance on fossil-based feedstocks, but limited production capacity and inconsistent accounting for biogenic carbon have slowed brand adoption. This session shares learnings from Fashion for Good's Mass Balance Demonstrator, an initiative applying the mass balance attribution (MBA) chain-of-custody model to produce biomass-attributed PET, working with partners including On, Levi Strauss & Co., BESTSELLER, Indorama Ventures and UPM Biochemicals. Guoda will share findings and learnings from the project to date, covering early progress in producing biomass-attributed materials, building a cradle-to-grave GHG impact model, and shaping a practical blueprint for scaling biomass-attributed PET across the industry.
