TextileMission – Initiative Against Microplastic

PERFORMANCE DAYS, Munich

Expert Talk Area

Wednesday 28th November 2018

16:45 - 17:45 CET

Micro-sized particles of plastics, so called “microplastics” have turned out to be an environmental problem in marine and coastal waters. As the topic is very complex, the discussion will aim to define the expressions and compare the problem of textile based microplastic with particles from other sources such as cosmetics or car tires. In this context, the discussion partners will consider the special problem of the linear shape of textile based microplastic. In the further course of the podium discussion, possible ways to reduce or overcome the problem will be treated with a deeper look into new fabric constructions, finishing procedures or the use of biopolymers and recycled polymers. Thus an overview on the latest state of research of micro plastic emission into nature and the amount of textile based particles will be given and the experts' own preventive research results will depicted.

Panel discussion speakers include:
Moderator: Ms. Prof. Dipl.-Des. Ellen Bendt
Guests:
Lara Delle, Innovation Manager Materials, Vaude
Robert Klauer, Project Leader Textile Innovation - Microplastik, VAUDE Sport GmbH & Co.KG
Malin Obermann, Research Team, Hochschule Niederrhein, University of Applied Science
