As head of membership at Fair Wear, dr. Mariette van Amstel is responsible for guiding, supporting, and verifying the Fair Wear member brands in conducting meaningful human rights due diligence (HRDD). She also works on developing instruments for HRDD facilitation for all garment brands, accelerating broader industry alignment and progress, such as the recently launched HRDD Academy for brands, production facilities and retailers. Mariette has 10+ years' experience as a sustainability consultant, has worked as an Assistant Professor at the Free University Amsterdam and has written a dissertation about the reliability of sustainability product labels.

Mark is an active researcher who lectures to undergraduates (and masters students) and supervisors research students.

He teaches on the BA Sustainable Fashion programme. This includes modules on the lifecycle of fibres, sportwear and tools for sustainable design.

Marks research interests cover the comfort and protection of clothing systems for extreme and hostile environments and the role of textiles in protection in falls from height or from falling objects.

Since 2016 Mark has actively researched the problem of fibre release from textiles during laundry. He is a member of the Microfibre Consortiums (TMC) Technical Committee, The TMC is an industry funded organisation whose aim is to "facilitate the development of practical solutions for the textile industry to minimise microfibre release to the environment from textile manufacturing and product life cycle".

Technical Senior Director

Szilard Szarvas joined Hohenstein on June 1, 2024, as the Technical Director for Europe. In this role, he is responsible for technical support for sales, marketing, and business development for EU clients, particularly concerning the ECO PASSPORT and OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100. Prior to joining Hohenstein, Szilard gained extensive experience at LS&Co., where he managed global initiatives related to the safe and sustainable use of chemicals in products.
