At a time when this established brand has had to balance existing performance customers & popularity from Athleisure audiences, it has also reached out to a new consumer by appealing to their values. This has been driven by better sustainability practice.

Julian Lings came into The North Face from Britain's biggest retailer - Tesco. He has brought a new standard within sustainability to the performance industry that has ranged from collaborations with Christopher Raeburn to the newest waterproof fabric.

Julian will be interviewed by Charles Ross, an academic of the sportswear industry, in a conversation about a variety of topics from their repair service, Climate Beneficial Wool, Bottlesource collection, working with Gift Your Gear, creating the Responsible Standard, to FutureLight.

The North Face

Sustainability Manager

Julian is the Sustainability Manager for The North Face in Europe, Middle East and Africa, with responsibility for product sustainability, outdoor exploration, and conservation. Prior to joining The North Face in 2015, Julian spent a considerable portion of his career with Tesco working across the business’ Communications, Government Affairs, and Sustainability functions. After three years in the global sustainability team based in the UK, Julian moved to Ireland to head up Tesco Ireland’s sustainability and corporate social responsibility program. From there, he then moved to Switzerland to take on responsibility for The North Face’s sustainability and corporate social responsibility programs.
