Fabrics' footprint in the ocean
This presentation will give an overview of the pollution of the world’s oceans by anthropogenic litter. The audience will learn about the sources and the distribution of marine litter and its implications in the marine environment. Smallest plastic particles, the so-called microplastics, represent a substantial but yet poorly investigated fraction of marine plastic litter. Synthetic textiles have been identified as one source of microplastics. How do synthetic textile fibres escape to the sea and what are the consequences for marine wild-life? These questions will be addressed in this presentation.
