Downs: Thermal Properties & Compatible Fabrics
Down offer a high degree of thermal insulation without much weight. Due to their three-dimensional structure the countless, finely branched down form millions of small air-filled pockets. Since air is not a good heat conductor they make up an insulating layer preventing the heat of the body from disappearing. In combination with special downproof fabrics the outdoor, fashion and bedding industries rely on down as a natural material and present high tech products to meet the specific demands of their customers.

Ms. Hedderich created a uniform, consistent quality-driven standard system in Europe for fillings of feathers and down, which is now applied all over the world. Parallel, she worked on guidelines for a sustainable industrial production, especially covering animal welfare issues.
