All fabrics, both synthetic and natural, have the propensity for fibres to fragment and break off during production, and consumer wash and wear. With the escalating concern of both the environmental and human impact this brings, The Microfibre Consortium delivered the Microfibre 2030 Commitment and Roadmap in September 2021, with clear targets and milestones of the mitigation actions the industry could take.

This short presentation will coincide with the release of TMC’s Control of Textile Fibre Fragmentation in Wastewater guidelines and is intended for brands, in conjunction with their textile manufacturing partners, that wish to understand better the steps that can be taken to manage fibre loss within textile manufacturing.

As a forensic scientist specialising in textile fibres, Dr Kelly Sheridan, Head of Research at The Microfibre Consortium (TMC) brings a depth of first-hand experience and analytic thinking to the industry challenge of fibre fragmentation release.

 

TMC works to facilitates the development of practical solutions for the textile industry to minimise fibre fragmentation release to the environment from textile manufacturing and product life cycle. TMC looks to connect and translate deep academic research, with the reality of commercial supply chain production to offer solutions to its brand, retail and supplier members and ultimately for the greater good of our ecosystems.
