Bringing Merino Home: Exploring the Future of European Fine Wool

PERFORMANCE DAYS, Munich

Expert Talks

Wednesday 14th October 2026

15:30 - 16:30 CEST

What if high-quality merino wool could once again be produced in Europe?
This session introduces an ambitious new collaborative project investigating the feasibility of establishing superfine merino wool production in Germany. Working alongside farmers, agricultural experts and the textile industry, the project will explore everything from importing merino sheep and evaluating breeding conditions through to assessing fibre quality and commercial viability.
More than a research study, this is a practical initiative designed to understand whether a resilient, regional supply of premium merino wool can become a reality. Join us to hear about the project's objectives, early progress and what it could mean for the future of European textile supply chains.
