Greenwashing: The Elephant-in-the-Room?

Green Evolution is both the theme of the trade fair & a subject that makes almost every CSR person cringe. When done well the sustainable practice benefits everybody, but the fear is that promotional teams will get hold of a slightly better practice & make it out to be the world's best, which just adds to the green-fog of the situation. The best CSR work is because it goes back to the origin of the product & then has a development path. Expressions like Traceability & Transparency are used. Various certificated bodies are involved. It is hard work, rather than a box-ticking exercise.

Nicholas works for the most visible of all the Outdoor brands on this journey, sometimes in areas where no pathways exist. Not an easy thing to achieve - but the rewards benefit the whole of the industry...

Senior Manager, Traceability and Animal Welfare

Nick manages the traceability program at Patagonia, working with suppliers around the world to ensure traceability of material, conducting due diligence on their environmental, social and animal welfare claims, and sharing Patagonia’s journey with other brands and industry groups.

Prior to joining Patagonia, Nick had over eight years experience in supply chain program management and onsite auditing, including tracebaility of conflict minerals, gold and wood pulp. Nick has visited farms, factories and distribution centers in over 25 countries.
