Best of Focus Topic
The October 2025 PERFORMANCE DAYS highlighted a crucial topic for the textile industry’s future: the role of recyclers in a growing circular economy. Under the focus “Textile to Textile – The Role of Recyclers,” the fair showcased a wide range of sustainable textiles and innovative material solutions.
Asia leads in scaling and cost-efficiency for recycled yarns, Europe relies more on mechanical recycling, and Nordic countries focus increasingly on cellulose fibers. Over 50 recycled fabrics demonstrate significant progress, especially in performance and outer-layer materials. Quality has greatly improved, with recycled textiles now soft, elastic, and visually appealing.
The market is clearly moving towards scalable, brand-driven recycling concepts — a vital step toward a more sustainable future.
Among the Best of Focus Topic Picks, several outstanding examples illustrate how textile-to-textile recycling is already shaping the industry’s future. Italian mill Pontetorto demonstrates a fully mechanical recycling loop within one country—turning garment-cutting waste into new high-quality fabrics while minimizing transport emissions. TMA showcases circularity through CIRCULOSE®, a chemically recycled fiber derived from cotton textile waste, recycled and reused within the EU. Evertex highlights Ambercycle’s cycora® regenerated polyester, advancing circular polyester solutions through chemical recycling. BASF’s Loopamid® presents a fully recycled Polyamide 6 made entirely from textile waste, offering the same high performance and comfort as virgin material. Long Advance takes sustainability further with its RENU® 3-layer fabric, using chemically recycled textile waste combined with a recycled laminate and backer for a single-material construction. Finally, Sympatex® impresses with a mono-material 3-layer laminate made from chemically recycled polyester textile waste, featuring both a PES membrane and PES backing—delivering full circularity and outstanding functionality.

BASF is able to offer a fully recycled Polyamide 6 that is based on textile waste (post-industrial and post-consumer). Our textile-to-textile recycling technology which is able to digest hard-to-recycle polyamide 6 textile waste containing dyestuff, coatings and even other polymers like polyester and elastane. It offers the same excellent quality in performance and comfort with the add on causing lower impact for the environment compared to virgin Polyamide 6, making loopamid attractive for various applications in the fashion and textile industry.
