TENCEL™ for Footwear
With more than 23 billion pairs of shoes produced every year, the environmental impact of the shoe industry is dragged into the spotlight of public awareness, as shoes usually won’t be recycled. Therefore, post-usage considerations are very important for the footwear industry. By choosing the right material, shoe makers and designers can contribute to a change! In this workshop you will hear, how the wood-based and compostable TENCEL™ fiber can be used in different parts of the shoe and why the TENCEL™ branded Lyocell fiber is placed as the most sustainable fiber among all established textile fibers in the Higg Materials Sustainability Index. TENCEL™ adds performance, such as optimum moisture management or enhanced breathability, two criteria which are very important for shoes.
