LIGHTWEIGHT fabrics are for highly aerobic activities. They are windproof, single layer fabrics, with or without a coating and lighter than 100g/sqm.

DOWNPROOF fabrics are for use with padding or down and for very low denier fibers. They are downproof by construction or ultralight coatings. It can't be said that a fabric is downproof for all kind of downs. The chosen fabric and wished down filling need to be tested to guarantee that this particular combination is downproof.

Lightweight & Downproof - April 2020

In this category of particularly light downproof fabrics, recycled man-made fibres dominate. There are many fabrics made of 100% recycled polyester or polyamide. The materials are not basic: structures like crinkle, ripstop or seersucker offer not only function but also look good. In addition to recycled materials, you can find biodegradable man-made fibres and polyamide made from biomass. The lightest fabric of the season weighs only 24g and is made of recycled polyester (7 denier). The majority of these fabrics are made of mono-materials, so they can be returned to the closed loop recycling process.

Lightweight & Downproof - November 2019

The lightweights have once again taken a giant leap forward in terms of functionality and sustainability. For the first time, there are 20 den polyamide yarns, made from castor oil. Whereas the benchmark for lightweights used to be around the 10 den mark, 7 den yarns are making headway. Nevertheless, these fabrics, which often only weigh at around 30 grams, are robust, also due to their Cordura content. Of course, downproofness is also a major issue, due its construction alone, as is PFC-free DWR.
